Black-and-White Wednesday: Northwestern University razed its Speech Annex to create more campus parking in 1980.
Ph.D. student, Peter Steven, sits on the steps of the Northwestern University Speech Annex while its demolition is underway. June 1980.
In U.S. universities in the 1970s, film programs were customarily housed in run-down annexes, Quonset huts, and the like. Northwestern was no different. Its Department of Radio/Television/Film was in the "Speech Annex” until June 1980 when it was unceremoniously razed.
