College Dorm Life, 1972
Black-and-White Wednesday: Brown University dorms were Spartan, shall we say, in the early 1970s.
College Dorm Life, 1972; Goddard Hall, Brown University, Providence, RI; September 1972.
Brown University dorms did not have many amenities back then: no phone, no AC (and noisy radiator heat), a single bed that was shaped like a trough, and a beaten-up desk, chair, and bureau. I decorated my dorm room walls with a movie theater’s schedule and a homemade poster reading, “We must endure the presence of caterpillers if we wish to know butterflies” (painted by my friend Loti).
